Innovative Marine 20-Gallon Peninsula Saltwater Aquarium Build Guide
I owned the discontinued 14-gallon version of this aquarium and absolutely loved it. This newer 20-gallon model gives you more water, a full 30 inches of length, and that same peninsula shape with a great view from three sides.
My verdict
A fantastic small reef if you already have a sturdy place to put it
I love the 20-gallon size and I love the peninsula layout. Thirty inches of swimming room makes this feel much larger than a typical nano aquarium, and the low-iron glass keeps the view crisp.
The downside is the pedestal. It is only 2.5 inches tall, so it is not a cabinet stand. You still need a strong table, desk, or other piece of furniture that can safely support the completed aquarium.

This is much more than an empty glass box. Innovative Marine includes the basic filtration hardware, a controllable return pump, a screen lid, and two different ways to handle mechanical and chemical filtration.

The aquarium measures 11.8 inches front to back, 30 inches long, and 13 inches high. The display portion is about 10.18 by 27.3 inches. It uses 8 mm low-iron glass and hides the filtration inside the rear chamber.

What I like
Why this little aquarium feels bigger than it is
Thirty inches long
That extra length creates more swimming room and more choices when you design the aquascape.
Peninsula viewing
Instead of staring through one front panel, you can enjoy the aquarium from the front and both long sides.
Low-iron glass
The clearer glass helps the tank look clean and premium without turning it into a giant system.
Useful equipment included
The controllable MightyJet pump, lid, filtration choices, and small magnetic cleaner give you a meaningful head start.
The pedestal is the one real downside
The APS pedestal is not a full stand and it does not give you storage underneath the aquarium. Plan on placing this tank on a sturdy, water-resistant table or desk that can safely support the aquarium once it is full.
Rear chamber reality
A peninsula this narrow does not leave much filtration space
The rear filtration chamber is convenient, but it is small. You can run the included filter sock or the CustomCaddy, add biological media, and possibly hang a UV sterilizer on the back. Just do not expect sump-like room.
What should fit
A filter sock or media caddy, biological media, the included return pump, and the basic equipment needed to run the tank. The sock and CustomCaddy use the same space, so you choose one at a time.
What may need to hang on the back
If you decide later that you want a protein skimmer, refugium, or other larger equipment, expect to use a hang-on-the-back option. Keeping the livestock reasonable and growing macroalgae in the display can also help manage nutrients naturally.

Add the light and water movement the aquarium does not include
The tank includes a return pump, but it does not include a reef light or the kind of varied flow I want for coral. These are the two big upgrades I would start with.
21-Inch AI Blade Grow
The aquarium is exactly 30 inches long, and BRS recommends the 21-inch Blade for tanks from 21 to 30 inches. One Grow should be enough to get this build started, and the included tank rests mean you do not need a separate mount.

Everything else I would buy to get this aquarium started
The aquarium package includes a lot, but it is not an all-inclusive kit. You still need tools for salinity and maintenance, supplies to cycle the aquarium, purified water, salt, sand, and rock.

I would use the 100-watt version for this build. The titanium element requires a separate temperature controller, so pair it with the Inkbird below and plug it into the heating outlet.

This controller switches the heater on and off to maintain your chosen temperature. It also has high and low temperature alarms, WiFi monitoring, and a separate cooling outlet if you add a fan or chiller later.

Refractometer with Calibration Fluid
Use this to mix new saltwater and confirm the aquarium stays at the right salinity. Calibrate it with the included 35 ppt solution before relying on the reading.

Python 2-Inch Pro-Clean Gravel Wash
The 2-inch tube is a better fit for this 20-gallon build than the tiny gravel vacuum used on the DeskMate. I would choose the Medium version for this shallow, 13-inch-tall tank.

Super glue and coral adhesive
I would buy both of these before assembling the rockwork. Build and test the structure outside the aquarium, and let the joints set before moving it into place.

I would use this extra-thick gel to secure small rock contacts and attach coral frags. The 10-ounce bottle gives you plenty to work with while building the aquascape. Start with a stable structure rather than relying on glue to hold an unsupported pile of rock.

Tunze Coral Gum Instant — 400 Grams
Choose the 400-gram version. This fast-setting, two-part coral adhesive is useful for securing small aquascaping pieces and coral mounts. Mix and use it according to the instructions, and check that each joint is secure before moving the structure.

Choose this aquarium for the shape, not because it includes everything
Choose it if…
You want a compact reef with 30 inches of length, a beautiful three-sided view, and more water volume than a tiny desktop nano.
Think twice if…
You need a matching cabinet stand or want lots of hidden filtration equipment. The pedestal and narrow rear chamber are the compromises.
Keep it manageable by…
Stocking slowly, keeping the animal list reasonable, doing regular water changes, and using the display itself for attractive macroalgae if you need more nutrient export.
